DAVAO CITY — The Land transportation Office (LTO) XI started to release driver’s license with 10-year validity on December 1, 2021.
Oscar Don Zamora, Chief of LTO XI licensing division in an interview with Newsline, said they already implemented Section 3 of the newly amended Republic Act No. 10930 otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Under the law motorists who have not been involved in a traffic accident and have not violated traffic laws will be given a driver’s license with 10-year validity but they are required to pass a theoretical and practical examination.
Only 150 drivers in the Davao Region hold a license that can be used for ten years on the third day of the implementation of RA 10930.
The new law was implemented on Wednesday, December 1. Under the law, a driver with no record of violating traffic laws will be given a license which he can renew only after ten years.
Zamora said that those who renew their license are required to pass the online examination whose result will be presented during renewal.
“Here in the Davao Region, we have started distributing driver’s license with a 10-year validity to those who have no traffic violations committed during the five years of the validity of their driver’s license,” Zamora said.
“Those who have committed traffic violations during the 5-year validity of their license will automatically be given license with 5-year validity. They still need to undergo our mandatory Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE),” Zamora further said.
To avoid unnecessary delay, those who will renew driver’s licenses should bring with them Medical Certificate including the driver’s license and Certificate of Completion proving that they have passed the examination and have undergone the Comprehensive Driver’s Education.
For renewal, the applicants will pay P585. But if their license expired they will add P75 or a total of P660 if their license expired.
Zamora added that there are 70 to 80 people who can process their applications every day.
Those unfamiliar with the new law, Zamora said there will be LTO staff to assist them.
Zamora warned the public that they should only transact with the LTO and not with fixers so that they can get a genuine license.
