Magnitude 5.9 earthquake shakes up Davao Oriental

DAVAO CITY (January 16) — A magnitude 5.9 earthquake  shook up  the province of Davao Oriental province early this morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) revealed that earthquake at 4:03 a.m., some 127 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 114 kilometers.

Intensity 4 was felt in Davao City and San Josefa, Agusan del Sur.

Instrumental intensity 3 was recorded in Alabel, Sarangani while instrumental intensity 2 was reported in Davao City, General Santos City, Kiamba, Sarangani, Kidapawan City, Gingoog City, and Tupi, South Cotabato.

Phivolcs said the  tremor is likely to spawn aftershocks but may not cause damage, saying it  was part of the December 29 magnutide 7.2 earthquake aftershocks.-NewsLine.ph
