CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (May 20) — Consumers in several towns and cities in Misamis Occidental could see more stable electricity service after a new emergency power deal was signed between an Aboitiz-led power firm and the area’s electric cooperative.
The 2-megawatt emergency power supply agreement (EPSA) between Therma South Inc. and Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative Inc. is intended to help prevent disruptions in electricity supply, particularly during periods of tight power availability.
The agreement covers consumers in Oroquieta City and the municipalities of Aloran, Lopez Jaena, Plaridel, Calamba, Baliangao, Sapang Dalaga, and Concepcion — areas where residents and businesses rely heavily on uninterrupted power for daily operations, schooling, and livelihood.
MOELCI-I General Manager Guilvin Medina said the agreement builds on more than a decade of partnership with Aboitiz.
“This EPSA is a reflection of that. For over ten years, TSI has been a steadfast partner in keeping the lights on for our customers, and we are proud that this agreement makes history as the first of its kind,” Medina said in a statement Tuesday.
For many consumers, emergency supply arrangements have become increasingly important as electric cooperatives face rising demand and the continuing risk of power shortages, especially during peak usage months.
AboitizPower Head of Revenue Operations James Yu said the company considers emergency supply support part of its commitment to partner cooperatives.
“At TSI and AboitizPower, we don’t just provide power — we stand by our partners in every situation, including the critical moments when they need us most,” Yu said.
The agreement also marks the first emergency power supply deal entered into by TSI, highlighting what both parties described as a growing need for faster-response arrangements to help maintain reliable electricity service in local communities.
