DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The National Housing Authority (NHA) and Housing Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) along with Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the housing the AFP-PNP housing in Davao City.
The signing was led by NHA general manager Marcelino Escalada, HDMF chief executive officer Acmad Rizaldy Moti, Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) director Manuel R. Gaerlan and AFP- Eastern Mindanao commander Lt.Gen. Benjamin Madrigal.
The project, Madayaw residences, will have 700 units for distribution to qualified AFP and PNP personnel in the city and in the region.
Escalada said the target completion of the project will be on December next year but they will have a partial distribution of 200 units this coming December.
He said the distribution of more than 700 units in Central Park, Bangkal will be divided in which 45 percent will go to AFP and the other 45 will be for the PNP while the remaining 10 percent will allocated to other uniformed personnel such as Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology and Bureau of Corrections.
“What will happen is that we will not give the ball to housing boards. So, there is a housing board for the AFP and housing board for the PNP,” he said.
There are 2,100 applicants of the said housing projects. Escalada said that in their initial talks, the uniformed personnel who can avail the housing project are those who are in the ‘last three lower ranks.’ “Kung kulang man gyud siya kay daghan man gyud interesado (This is not really sufficient because there are many of them are interested with this), I still allocated around 2000 housing units in Davao City and we were just looking for sites,” he said.
The NHA, according to Escalada, is looking the areas in Tugbok District and Buhangin District where they can build another housing for the other men in uniform. “This might accommodate 2,000 units but this will be not a low rise building housing, it will be duplex type,” he said.

Escalada said the applicants will have two choices, either 36 square meter floor area 42 square meter floor area, but the entire unit will have 60 square meters.
Moti said the Pag-Ibig fund will support the financial requirement of the NAH because it is a program beneficial to the PNP/AFP members.
Gaerlan and Madrigal said they are happy that President Rodrigo Duterte and Escalada put up a project the members of the PNP and the AFP in Davao which is very accessible.-Armand B. Fenequito/Newsline.ph
