BASILAN –The Municipality of Maluso and the city of Lamitan were honored by the Zuellig Family Foundation on July 5 for their successful response to the problem of malnutrition in their localities. The prestigious award was given to both localities in recognition of their dedicated programs aimed at addressing malnutrition and ensuring the health of children.

The programs were also supported by the Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation under the project “Strengthening Integrated Provincial Leadership and Governance for the First 1000 Days.” According to Mayor Hanie Bud of Maluso, various efforts were made to strengthen the health program in their area and provide children with nutrition-rich meals.

One of the programs implemented in Maluso is “Usapang Barangay Kalusugan,” which aims to provide information and education to communities to enhance the health program. Barangay Health Stations (BHS) and Rural Health Units (RHU) are also actively involved in meeting the basic healthcare needs of the community.

Mayor Bud acknowledged the crucial role played by Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in implementing these programs. The local government has also increased personnel to ensure the effective implementation of the program.

In addition to Maluso, the city of Lamitan was also recognized for its outstanding achievement. Maluso achieved a nutrition program grade of 81.6 percent, significantly reducing malnourished residents from 7.43 percent to 0.49 percent.

Lamitan City Mayor Oric Furigay and Lamitan officials accepted the award from the Zuellig Family Foundation, supported by the Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation (KGJF), at an awarding ceremony held on July 5 at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Governor Jim Hataman expressed his gratitude to Zuellig for their support and acknowledged the efforts of the local governments in his province.
