DAVAO CITY — A fire broke out along R. Castillo Street in Barangay San Antonio, Agdao, Davao City, resulting in a loss of life on the morning of August 9.

Efforts were undertaken by firefighters and volunteers to contain the extensive flames that engulfed structures.

Preliminary inquiries conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection suggest a possible cause originating from a discarded cigarette or an unattended mosquito coil that may have ignited the fire.

SFO4 Ramil Gillado, BFP SPMC Fire Station, stated, “Our investigation is currently focused on determining the exact cause…”

Among those affected was Cristine Mabuna from Lingig, Surigao del Sur, who tragically lost her life in the fire. Additionally, two assisting men also suffered fatal outcomes while engaging in recovery efforts, with their identities withheld due to the severity of the fire’s consequences.

The impact of the fire extended beyond its epicenter, affecting adjacent establishments including an internet shop, eatery, LPG store, and a motor vehicle. An estimated damage worth approximately one million pesos was reported by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
