DAVAO CITY – In a bid to eliminate illegal drugs from circulation, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a burning activity to destroy confiscated narcotics in three regions of Mindanao.
The event took place at the Philippine-Japan Active Carbon Plant in Panacan, Davao City, and witnessed the destruction of various substances, including shabu, marijuana, and cocaine.
The PDEA demonstrated the testing process to ensure the authenticity of the seized substances and reaffirm their commitment to eradicating illegal drugs.
A sample of suspected shabu was subjected to testing inside a test tube, where a reagent was added to determine its chemical composition.
The same testing method was employed to verify the presence of cocaine and marijuana among the confiscated items. By providing this transparent process, PDEA aimed to assure the public that the substances burned were indeed the evidence seized and to dispel any doubts.
Naravy Duquiatan, the Director of PDEA-XI, emphasized the significance of tackling the drug problem and highlighted the quantities of drugs involved in the operation.
The burning activity resulted in the destruction of a significant amount of illegal drugs. Among the substances incinerated were 2.5 kilograms of shabu, 20.2 kilograms of marijuana, and 779.95 grams of cocaine. These drugs were confiscated during operations conducted by PDEA in Regions 11, 12, and 13. The decision to destroy them was executed in Davao City.
According to Aileen Lovitos, the Director of PDEA-12, the agency has been closely monitoring illegal drug activities, particularly those related to transshipment through ports. By remaining vigilant and proactive, PDEA aims to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent the proliferation of narcotics in the region.
“PDEA Director Aileen Lovitos emphasized the agency’s efforts in monitoring drug transshipment activities through the ports.”
The burning of confiscated illegal drugs was carried out in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Before the destruction process, PDEA obtained the necessary permission from the court, adhering to the legal protocols surrounding the disposal of such substances.
Charlene Magdurulang, the Director of PDEA-XIII, emphasized the importance of upholding the law and ensuring the proper handling and destruction of confiscated illegal drugs.
“The destruction of confiscated illegal drugs is in accordance with the law,” said Charlene Magdurulang, Director of PDEA-XIII.
By eliminating these illegal substances, PDEA strives to make significant strides in combating the drug problem and protecting the community from the devastating consequences of drug abuse. The agency remains committed to its mission of maintaining a drug-free society and safeguarding the welfare of the people.
