DAVAO CITY (October 12) — Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo assumed a new role as President Rodrigo Duterte’s spokesman on Friday even as his predecessor, Harry Roque has yet to formally quit the post.

Palace reports earlier said, Panelo will take over Roque’s post on Monday, October 15.  But yesterday, Panelo  assumed the post and called for his first press briefing.

Some were even surprised when he called for a press briefing while Roque is still in China attending a conference.

Citing the memorandum formalizing his appointment dated October 11, Panelo said the job is not new to him, he was the spokesperson in 2016  but he was immediately replaced by Ernesto Abella.

The document was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdia states “In compliance with the instructions of the President and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of public service, you are hereby designated Presidential Spokesperson effective immediately.”

Panelo will serve as Spkesperson and Legal Counsel in a concurrent capacity.-NewsLIne
