DAVAO CITY — The country recorded more than 45,000 passenger arrivals on Easter Sunday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Monday.

Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the increase in the arrival and departure of passengers is expected at the tail end of the holidays.

“The high number of arriving and departing passengers shows that the travel sector is already recovering. We see this as a good sign, and we believe the numbers will continue rising until the end of the year,” the BI chief added.

On the other hand, he reported that more than 33,000 departures were also recorded.

The BI has fielded a total of 155 immigration officers in anticipation of an influx of travelers for the week, together with a batch of 36 immigration officers who were deployed after completing their training.

Tansingco also acknowledged the officers who completed their duties during the holiday season.

“Our officers sacrifice precious time with their loved ones to serve the traveling public. Despite the challenges, we are thankful to those who continue their work efficiently and professionally,” he added.
