DAVAO REGION (April 29) – The honorarium for teachers who will serve in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections has been increased.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has approved an additional Php2,000 to their honorarium and has also deputized them to implement certain election-related policies during the polls.
According to the Department of Education (DepEd) Region XI, around 12,411 teachers across the Davao Region will take part in the electoral process: 11,132 teachers will serve as members of the Electoral Boards, 1,136 as DepEd Supervisor Officials, and 143 as members of the Barangay Board of Canvassers (BBOC). DepEd Davao Region spokesperson, Jenelito “Dodong” Atillo, said that their office will also deploy additional teaching and non-teaching personnel to assist during election day.
Atillo explained that members of the Electoral Boards have been deputized by COMELEC to enforce election-related policies.
“We will be putting a lot of human resources—both teaching and non-teaching personnel—on standby during election day so they can immediately assist in case their services are needed at the polling precincts, supporting those who have been deputized by COMELEC to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2025 midterm elections,” said Atillo.
Atillo also clarified that teachers have the option to either accept or decline the assignment to serve in the elections.
Many teachers are reportedly eager to serve in the elections, encouraged by the Php2,000 increase in their honorarium for election-related positions.
The updated honorarium rates are as follows: Php12,000 for the Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Php11,000 for other members of the Electoral Board, and Php8,000 for Electoral Support Staff.
