Rebuilding program for quake victims starts

KIDAPAWAN CITY –— The provincial government of North Cotabato on Thursday launched the rebuilding program for earthquake victims in Barangay Buhay, Makilala. Ceremonial distribution of construction materials, livelihood assistance, health assistance, educational assistance, agricultural commodity assistance and distribution of relief goods were among the highlight activity. 

Governor Nancy Catamco said the residents need to start rebuilding their homes and lives after the destruction brought by series of earthquakes last year. While representative from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office XII Jackiya A. Lao announced during the program that each household of Barangay Buhay will receive P30K since all of the houses as per evaluation of DSWD were totally damaged.

The P30K assistance will be used in buying additional construction materials. She also added that they will also conduct a cash-for-work program for the construction of houses.To mitigate flooding and landslide in the area, the provincial government also initiated bamboo planting and growing activity as part of the rebuilding program. 

Catamco thanked all the stakeholders for helping Cotabato Province in the rebuilding process. She also challenged all the earthquake victims to be strong and resilient despite the calamity. “Luyo sa kahadlok nato sa kalamidad anaa ang kaisog sa pagbangon ug pag-atubang sa tanang pagsulay. Kay ang pagsulay maoy mupaisog kanato ug mutabang kanato nga makabarog pagbalik,” Governor Catamco said.

Makilala Mayor Armando Quibod and Barangay Buhay Chairman Sarahni R. Molok thanked Gov. Catamco and the provincial government of Cotabato as well as the non- government and line agencies for their unwavering support and effort in rebuilding the lives and homes of Makilaleños.-Randy Patches
