Three holidays in August but Davao has four

DAVAO CITY (August 2) —Three holidays are up this month but Davao residents will have four as Malacañang proclaimed Aug. 16 as a special non-working holiday to mark Kadayawan Festival.

The first holiday is on August 12, as Muslim residents will have this year’s Eid al-Adha.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 007, series of 2019 calendar for school year 2019-2020 already includes August 12 as a regular holiday for Eid’l Adha.

The second holiday is on August 16, it is for Davao City residents only, as it celebrates the Kadayawan Festival 2019. This is based on Proclamation 774, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

While August 21, Wednesday is a special non-working holiday, it is – Ninoy Aquino Day.

While August 26, is a regular holiday, it is National Heroes’ Day. 

Here’s the list of expected holidays in the country for 2019.

In Davao City, around 250,000 tourists are expected to visit the Kadayawan Festival with a P75 million budget.

Among the highlights of the celebration are the tribal village, showcasing the culture and traditions of the city’s 11 tribes, the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan and Pamulak sa Kadayawan.

The other events include Hiyas sa Kadayawan pageant; Dula Kadayawan; Sayaw Kadayawan; Tunog Kadayawan; Kadayawan Dragon Boat Festival; Pitik Kadayawan drumbeating competition; and Mugna Kadayawan 2019, and on-the-spot wall art competition.-ezc
