Top Abu Sayyaf leader surrendered is Basilan

Isabela City, Philippines — One of the top two Abu Sayyaf Group leaders in Basilan, Nurhassan Jamiri, and thirteen (13) of his followers surrendered at Barangay  Serongol, Hadji Muhammad Ajul Municipality Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

On February 27, The Star.com Malaysia reported, Jamiri was among the three persons killed by police authorities during a shootout inside a plantation, about a  kilometer away from the main Kalabakan-Keningau road in Sabah.

In this photo Malaysian news agency Star Online said one of the three person killed was Jurhassan Jamiri.

But a press release from the Western Mindanao Command said Jamiri surrendered.

In a press statement, Joint Task Force Basilan — 3SRB under Ltc Almodovar composed of 8SRC under 1Lt Santiago and 9SRC under Cpt Espiritu; 104th Brigade Intel
operatives under Major Demafelix; one (1) squad from the 74IB under 2Lt Mendoza; and four (4) personnel from the 14LAC led by Staff Sergeant Delfino.

The special operations were conducted in coordination with various LGU units headed by Kaiser Hataman, brother of the ARMM governor and the Basilan governor.

Jamiri and his followers also surrendered to the government troops ten (10) assorted high powered firearms, forty (40) assorted magazines, 651 assorted ammunitions,
one (1) MK52 fragmentation grenade, and bandoleers.

After the successful special operations, the surrendeers were debriefed at the 9SRC at Brgy. Colonia, Lamitan City and were brought by Joint Task Group Basilan
commander BGen Juvymax Uy to the Western Mindanao Command in Zamboanga City for presentation to Lt Gen Carlito Galvez, Jr.-Richard G. Falcatan/Newsline.ph
