22.6M learners enrolled for incoming school year: DepEd

MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday reported that 22,663,065 learners have enrolled in public and private schools nationwide for the academic year 2020-2021.

Data from the department shows as of August 5, about 21,163,276 learners have enrolled in public schools and 1,465,574 in private schools.

Region 4-A (Calabarzon) logged the highest number of enrollees with 3,040,117, and the Cordillera Administrative Region recorded the lowest with 372,731.

The number of private school students who transferred to public schools stood at 378,731.

The enrollees were from kindergarten to senior high school, as well as learners with disabilities and those taking the alternative learning system.

DepEd, meanwhile, also reported that several schools nationwide have performed a dry run of the different learning modalities they’ll use in the conduct of basic education in the new normal.

These include 258 schools for modular (printed or digital) learning, 181 schools for blended (TV, radio, modular or online) learning, 42 schools for online distance learning, seven schools for radio-based instruction, and one school for homeschooling. (PNA)
