ZAMBOANGA CITY — There are fifty (50) foreigners illegally working here, this was uncovered during a series of inspection conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in various establishments here.

DOLE-Region 9 Director Ofelia Domingo in an interview with PNA revealed those foreign nationals fare working here in Zamboanga City without alien employment permits.

Domingo said the discovery was made through the recent regular inspection conducted by the labor and foreign national labor inspectors.

The Labor department will look into the Immigration records to check if they have been naturalized or have investments, adding they will let them explain on the status of their employment.

“If they will not comply, they will be given order of compliance, and a mandatory conference will be made,” she addded.

The Philippine Labor law provides that foreigners must first acquire alien employment permit and comply with the requirements before they can be employed in any firm. The requirements include passport, visa, and application form. A labor market test is required for those applying for technical positions.

Foreigners who “Work has legitimate work here must pay the taxes due to the Philippine government,” Domingo emphasized.
