MANILA — The Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) will monitor ‘colorum’ and out of line vehicles that will transport ‘flying voters’ in today’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

At the same time, I-ACT made an appeal to drivers and operators not to use such vehicles in illegal activities as they will face harsher penalties.

“It is high time for out-of-line and colorum vehicles to stop being used for ‘hakot’ voters to ensure honest, orderly and peaceful elections,” Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Road Transport and I-ACT chief Tim Orbos said in a statement.

“Aside from colorum violation, drivers and operators might face jail time according to the Omnibus Election Code,” he added.

The heightened alert status is in line with Secretary Arthur Tugade’s directive to all sectoral offices and attached agencies of the DOTr to ensure safe and comfortable travel to passengers that will troop to the provinces for the elections.

The I-ACT encouraged the public to report suspected vehicles transporting ‘flying voters’ on its Facebook page or DOTr’s Action Center Hotline 7890.

“We will make sure no candidate will be spared, particularly those who will use colorum vehicles for their personal advantage,” Orbos reiterated.-PNA
