Customs confiscates $54,215 US dollar bills inserted on pages of various magazines

DAVAO CITY –— The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark personnel led to the seizure of a total of $54,215 US Dollar Bills found inserted on pages of various magazines last June 05, 2020.

The Customs strict profiling of shipments and vigilance led to the discovery of the misdeclared baggage.

Said shipment declared as “Chinese Cook Book Recipes” arrived on 25 May 2020 from Hong Kong and was subjected to non-intrusive examination.

But when the Customs conducted the physical examination on the shipment they discovered dollar bills inserted in the pages of the books with the following denomination: 540 pcs. $100 Bill, two (2) pcs. $50 Bill, four (4) pcs. $20 Bill, one (1) pc. $10 Bill and five (5) pcs. $5 Bill from seven (7) different magazines with a total sum of of USD$54,215 or equivalent to Php2.7-M was apprehended.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) was issued by District Collector Atty. Ruby Alameda for violation of Sections 1400 and 1113 f, i & l (3) of R.A. No. 10863 (CMTA) in relation to BSP Foreign Exchange Transaction Manual.

District Collector Alameda said that the port will remain vigilant with this kind of schemes used by unscrupulous individuals to defraud the government.-Newsline with PR
