ISABELA CITY, Basilan (October 29) – Four people were wounded after fighting erupted Tuesday morning, October 28, in Barangay Poblacion, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, in what authorities described as a rido (clan feud)–related clash.

Brig. Gen. Fredrick Sales, commander of the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade, said the skirmish involved members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The wounded were taken to nearby hospitals, though their identities were not immediately disclosed.

The Basilan Provincial Government said the renewed violence was linked to the killing of Islamic teacher and Barangay Baguindan councilor Nadzri Tarahin on October 21 in Lamitan City. Followers of Tarahin were reportedly seeking revenge against those believed responsible.

In a joint statement, the provincial government, security forces, and MILF leaders vowed to de-escalate tensions and protect residents. Sales said the military remains on alert and is coordinating with the police, LGUs, and community elders to prevent further clashes.

“The presence of military personnel in the area is part of our mandate to preserve peace and maintain order,” Sales said, urging residents to remain calm and support the peace process.
