KIDAPAWAN CITY — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Wednesday padlocked three business establishments here including a popular native chicken barbeque house for tax evasion.

The agency’s “BIR Kandado Team” issued the closure order after the management of the establishments failed to correct their Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance and other defilements.

The BIR served the closure orders to Jervoso’s Place, a popular restaurant in the city, Jervoso’s Bake Shoppe and Jervoso’s Ukay-Ukay (second-hand clothing) store, all located along Daang Maharlika here and registered under the proprietor’s name of Evangeline Morala.

Arguelles said the establishments violated the tax code when the owner failed to declare about 30 percent of their sales.

“The failure of Morala’s establishments to issue official receipts was another violation,” he said.

Arguelles said before the issuance of the closure order, the BIR conducted two weeks of surveillance as part of evidence gathering to be fair with the management.

A 48-hour grace period was given for the three establishments to explain why they should not be penalized but the firm failed to respond accordingly, he said.

Arguelles reminded all city business establishments to issue official receipts in compliance with the tax code and as a social responsibility. -Edwin O. Gernandez
