Cotabato prelate slams Isulan attacks

September 3, 2018 by Philippine News Agency

MANILA — Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo has condemned the two recent bombing incidents in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat that killed five people and injured several others.

The prelate urged the people to pray for the victims and their families.

“As the Religious Leader of all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cotabato, I absolutely condemn these terroristic acts. I enjoin every true believer in the One True God, by whatever Name the Almighty and Merciful God is called, to pray for the victims and for their families,” Quevedo said in a statement Sunday.

“True Believers in God have to cry out in outrage at the terrorist bombings in the town of Isulan, Province of Sultan Kudarat. All religions are religions of peace,” the head of the Archdiocese of Cotabato added.

The Cotabato prelate asked the authorities to bring those behind the terror attack to justice.

“I strongly urge our military, security and peace officers with the collaboration of the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) and the MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front), now forces for peace, to flush out the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” he said.

“Two bombings in the past five days have mercilessly snuffed out the lives of at least five innocent people, including two young men who are active in our Catholic youth ministry. Scores of others, equally innocent, have been wounded,” Quevedo added.

On Sunday, the still unidentified men set off an improvised bomb in the said town, killing two persons and wounding 14 others.

The blast occurred less than a week after three people died and over 30 were also injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Barangay Kalawag 3.

The incident prompted organizers to cancel the celebration of the town’s foundation anniversary and Hamungaya festival. (PNA)
