DAVAO CITY –— The Department of Heath (DOH) regional field office XI here noted an increase in cases of COVID-19 in Davao Region as of April 10, 2023

Annabelle Yumang, the regional director in advisory no. 1 issued on dated April 11, stated “There has been a notable increase in Covid-19 cases in Davao Region, particularly in Davao City.”

But the DOH did not reveal how many cases were recorded in Davao City against other cities in Davao region to establish the difference.

The same statement stated “there is a compelling need for hospitals to prepare for the possibility of a surge, especially with the recent long holiday in celebration of the Holy Wee, in which family and public gathering were expected.”

On April 10, the DOH Facebook page reported “223 new cases were recorded in the past week, April 3-9, 2023. This is lower by 1.33% compared to the cases reported last March 27-April 2, 2023. “

It also recorded “Five (5) actual death in the past seven (7) days; 11cases are newly verified deaths recorded in the database,” the press statement said.

Healthcare utilization shows regional hospital capacity: 31.1% non-ICU bed use and 40.4% ICU bed use.

Only 26 admissions of 339 of COVID-19 admissions are severe and critical. Out of the 26, only 11 (3.24% of the total admissions) are confirmed cases, while 15 are probable and suspects.

Of the 3,353,240 individuals or 88.3% of the target population in the Davao Region are fully vaccinated as of March 6, 2023.

The public is reminded to continue practicing minimum public health standards: wear the best-fitted mask, isolate when sick, double up protection with vaccination and boosters, and ensure good airflow. COVID-19 vaccination efforts are continuing throughout the region.-Editha Z. Caduaya
