Davao’s Man of Peace, Abp Fernando Capalla dies

DAVAO CITY –— Davao’s man of Peace, Roman Catholic Archbishop-Emeritus Fernando Robles Capalla joined his creator early morning today January 6, 2023 inside his residence at a seminary compound.

Monsignor Paul Cuison told Newsline “Our Man of Peace, our dearly beloved Archbishop Nanding joined his creator at exactly 1:23am today, Jan 6. May he rest in peace!”

“He is a man of Peace, he was instrumental in organizing the Bishop-Ulama Conference and he succeeded in bringing together leaders for interreligious dialogues” Monsignor Cuison told Newsline.

Known for his peace advocacy, he was a recipient of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Award for peace and unity.

His loves to quote “the heart of peace is the peace of the heart”.

Arch. Nanding was born on November 1, 1934, in Leon, Iloilo Province.

He was succeeded by Romulo Valles as archbishop of Davao on February 11, 2012.
