Davao’s Museo Dabawenyo to open in 2021

September 1, 2020 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY — The new Museo Dabawenyo will move to its new location in a 5-storey building constructed with the P200 million funding support from the Office of the President and the National Museum of the Philippines.

The Museo  is a 5-storey futuristic architectural design and it is durian-inspired exterior.

The local government unit and the National Museum of the Philippines will manage the Museo Dabawenyo.

“The best thing inside the building will be having a lot of galleries that showcase different history not just in local history but of course National History as well and showcasing different artifacts and paintings,” says Winnie Rose Galay-Bulig, the Officer-in-Charge of Museo Dabawenyo

There will be an array of  paintings from the famous national artist and local artists which will give local artists an opportunity to explore and get inspiration.

The museum would not only display local artifacts and history but also a museum of national history.

The building, which is located inside the People’s Park, will be completed next year.

The City Government of Davao and the National Museum have signed a Memorandum of Agreement and Deed of Usufruct last year in  which the National Museum shoulders the expenses for the operations and activities of the Museo Dabawenyo shall be included by the NM Annual Budget.

The NM  will also give a technical support and museological skills, extend their technical assistance in the preservation and restoration of cultural properties,” Bulig added.

She added that the construction of the building for the museum is a huge contribution in remembering not only Davao’s rich culture and heritage but of the Philippines’ as a whole.

Bulig said that the new building of Museo Dabawenyo was constructed inside People’s Park so that it will become a one-stop-shop for tourists coming to the city, as the  Pasalubong Center will be just a step away.

Museo Dabawenyo is currently located at the University Avenue, Juna Subdivision, Matina, and is temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. People who want to visit the museum may take a 3D virtual tour of Museo Dabawenyo through bit.ly/2Q0vC92 or on the Museo Dabawenyo Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/museodabawenyo.
