DAVAO CITY – Some 500 low-income residents of Barangay Miranda in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) received P3,000 financial aid each from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Region 11 (DSWD-11) on Friday, April 28.

The AICS is part of the protective services of the DSWD for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals.

The recipients of the program included marginalized workers who were adversely affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Besides the financial assistance from the DSWD-11, Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go distributed other supplies to the beneficiaries like bicycles, volleyballs and basketballs, crutches, shoes, mobile tablets, and food and grocery packs.

Go was a guest at the foundation day of Barangay Tambo where he inspected the three projects in the village that his office funded.

The senator encouraged villagers who have illnesses to avail themselves of the services offered by the Malasakit Center.

“We also have the Super Health Centers that would cater to your immediate health needs. We are establishing it closer to you so that you will no longer travel to seek medical treatment,” the senator said.

“We will use it (the financial assistance) to buy food especially milk for my children,” said Doreen Joy Cawate, one of the beneficiaries, as she acknowledged that it was a big help to her family.
