Gingoog City to implement stricter quarantine control

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The spike of Coronavirus cases has prompted the City of Gingoog to place the entire city under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine status starting June 16 up to 30, 2021.

In a press briefing on Friday night, Mayor Eric Cañosa said that the local government unit wrote a letter request to the Provincial and Regional Interagency Taskforce for the Management of Emerging Disease (IAFT) and to the National IATF.

Cañosa issued Executive Order 25 placing the city under stricter Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

“Secretary (Carlito) Galvez,Jr. called me last night (Thursday), telling me that our request for MECQ status is approved verbally,” Cañosa said.

Cañosa added that Galvez informed him that the request has been referred to the regional IATF.

Gingoog City  Health Officer  Agnes Centino said that hospitals in the city are now fully occupied, “As well as our Barangay and City Isolation Units (B/CIUs) are also fully occupied,” Centino said.

As of June 11, 2021, the city has 176 active cases with 37 in hospitals and 126 are in CIUs. It also recorded 29 deaths with two deaths recorded in the last two days.
