Groundbreaking for Davao-Samal bridge set in January 2021

Davao City — Despite hitches, Island garden City of Samal Mayor Al David Uy revealed, the  groundbreaking for the Davao-Samal bridge will take place in January 2021.

Uy said the September 24, 2020  meeting with Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Emil Sadain and Davao del Norte  Governor Edwin I. Jubahib has threshed out some issues and concerns about the 3.98-kilometer multi-billion project and they agreed that the groundbreaking ceremony be set in January of next year.

The P23.04-billion funding requirement for the project will be  80% official development assistance (ODA) from China while the 20% counterpart of the national government will come from the General Appropriations Act.

“This early, the   three Chinese-owned companies have signified their bid for the project: he said, The bridge construction will take four (4) years.

Recently, the family of landowners who are occupying the beach front has filed opposition to the project invoking the Writ of Kalikasan, but Uy said “The project can push through without sacrificing the marine resources, besides there areas that have been issued business permits for commercial use”.

Jubahib for his part said, he will go out of his way to realize the project, “We need the project not only to boost our tourism sector and economy, above all, it is necessary and love overdue”.-Newsline.ph
