DAVAO CITY — Due to hot weather, some provinces in Mindanao declared the suspension of Face-to-Face Classes in all levels to protect the learners.
Sultan Kudarat Vice Governor Raden Sakularan on Monday issued Executive Order No. 070 dated April 1 stating that the Province of Sultan Kudarat has been experiencing extreme heat conditions, with temperatures reaching levels that pose health and safety risks to students, teachers, and school personnel.
Citing the health and well-being of the students, teachers and the entire school community, Sakularan ordered the suspension of classes from April 1 to April 15, the order took effect on Tuesday, April 2.
The Pagasa recorded a 44 degrees Celsius heat index in the province and expected to continue in the coming days.
The Vice Governor also urged the school officials, teachers and the parents “To prioritize safety and take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of extreme heat during this period.”
The Vice Governor also requested the school officials to adopt an “Alternative modes of learning and teaching may be implemented to ensure continuity of education while face-to-face classes are suspended.”

The provincial government of Zamboanga del Del also suspended F-2F particularly the Pagadian City Pilot School and Buena Vista Integrated School in Zamboanga City.
In General Santos City, Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao temporarily suspends Face-to-face classes at all levels, both in public and private schools.
On Monday, Cotabato City in Maguindanao recorded 42°C
Pacquiao in an EO stated that the order stays “unless otherwise revoked or amended.”
Earlier on, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-Region 12) said the dangerous temperature on Monday and Tuesday forced some LGUs in the Soccsksargen region to suspend classes.
In Davao City, residents are also enduring the scorching heat of the sun which recorded a 34°C on Tuesday.
Rosa Catalan who was wearing a hoodie said the extreme heat said “It is like burning my skin and my skull.”
Many residents in Mindanao also shared the extreme hot weather they experienced.
People are enduring the hot weather everywhere due to the El Niño phenomenon.
The worsening weather condition is due to climate change.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has already warned that severe weather is expected due to El Nino.
People are encouraged to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration and use umbrellas or anything to cover their head and body against too much exposure.
