DAVAO CITY — She is not just a politician’s wife, she is a community leader sharing her time with women is her passion behind the scene, she is Kathryna Yu-Pimental, the wife of Mindanaoan Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel.

Little did the public knew about her, until last month, Kathryna instantly caught the attention of the public, when she moved around communities to share her life as a woman among women as she promotes breastfeeding among young mothers.

Kathryna Yu-Pimentel is the hardworking but unassuming wife of Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel.

She advocates breastfeeding, having seen how this has led to her daughter growing up in a healthy way. She shared that for more than a year, she breastfed her child. This was especially crucial given she gave birth while testing positive for COVID.

Kathryna is the founder and current chair of PDP Cares Foundation, an organization dedicated to social work. PDP Cares, which is rooted in Mindanao, has been silently working to uplift Mindanawon communities.

Many do not know that PDP Cares under Kathryna Yu Pimentel helped families caught in the Marawi siege. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, she led the organization in helping students in Cagayan de Oro and Sorsogon to have the necessary equipment to learn adequately from their online classes.

Kathryna is also a successful businesswoman. She brought Tiong Bahru, a restaurant that sells Singaporean food to the Philippines. Tiong Bahru is a Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee for giving customers the best value for their money. While the restaurant is currently only available in Metro Manila, Kathryna is expected to expand its operations for the benefit of us Mindanaoans.

Aside from the restaurant, Kathryna also owns a wellness clinic, offering aesthetic services, and an online bakery business.

Kathryna is one of the many Filipino women who have made their mark in all facets of society. She is certainly worth watching in the days ahead.
