OZAMIZ CITY — Police investigators are considering a land dispute between the slain broadcaster, Juan Jumalon, and his cousin-in-laws as a possible motive behind his death.

Misamis Occidental police director, Colonel Dwight Monato, said their investigation indicated that the broadcaster had a heated argument with two people prior to the gun attack in his home in Purok 2, Barangay Bernardo A. Neri, Calamba town, Misamis Occidental last Sunday, November 5.

Monato mentioned that Jumalon had filed cases of annulment of public documents and falsification of public documents against two people, identified as Prize Liberfine and Rodolito Yap, in connection with a land dispute.

Jumalon and the Yap’s are cousins.

The annulment of public documents case is still pending at the Regional Trial Court – Branch 36 in Calamba. Jumalon had successfully secured a conviction in the falsification case he filed.

Those convicted in the criminal case for falsification are currently under probation, according to Monato.

Reports gathered by Newsline also revealed that the two families own a radio station in Misamis Occidental, and there was a history of disagreement among them.

However, the police said they are still looking into other possible angles of the case. – Neptalie Batolenio
