Lone gunman kills former Guv exec

ZAMBOANGA CITY —A still unidentified gunman killed the former executive assistant of then Basilan Governor Wahab Akbar on February 25 at around 6:38 in the evening in Barangay Canelar Moret here.

Police identified teh victim as Paruk Majirul, 50 years old, a resident of Isabela City, Basilan province.

Inistial police investigation report showed that Marijul who just attended a wedding ceremony was driving his vehicle with six other individuals from Governor Camins Avenue when the morotcycle-riding gunman suddenly appeared and shot the victim.

Marijul suffered mutiple gunshot wounds while his companions were safe.

The victim served as executive assistant of then Isabela City Mayor Cherry Akbar and also served as executive assistant of former Basilan Governor Wahab Akbar.

The victim was taken to Brent Hospital but attending doctors but he expired.

The family of Majirul told local media in Zamboanga City that the victim received threats before he was attacked.

The killing of Majirul is the third murder in the city within a week. The first was on February 22, which involved Rosalina Samonte, a 53-year-old security guard and tricycle driver was killedwhile he was fixing his motorcycle.

Zamboanga City Police Office City Director Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo said he formed a team to pursue and arrest the perpetrators. “We in the police ensure the public that the PNP and other security and law enforcement units in Zamboanga City will continue implementing the strict security measures to sustain the ideal peace and order in the City,” Lorenzo said.-Rodolfo Tubilag
