The Lyceum of the Philippines University Davao campus opened its College of Engineering on May 31.
The campus will start with two programs: a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering and one in industrial engineering.
The computer engineering program offers specializations in systems administration, software applications and data science.
Graduates of computer engineering can land jobs in software engineer, hardware engineer, network security engineer, entrepreneur, data analysis, web developer system engineer, and AI (artificial intelligence) engineer.
Meanwhile, a degree in industrial engineering can lead to careers with specializations in production and quality assurance, financial management and supply chain management.
The BS industrial engineering program is focused on developing the student’s abilities to study and optimize complex systems and processes.
There is a strong emphasis on efficiency, productivity and sustainability. Students will learn how to develop manufacturing processes, supply chain management and operational systems that would become assets in a number of industries.
They can become industrial engineers, quality control managers, supply chain managers, data analysts, operations managers, manufacturing engineers, project managers and safety engineers.
According to Felipe Balingit Jr, the vice president and chief academic officer, the launching of the college of engineering program at LPU Davao is to answer the increasing demand from the industry for graduates of these courses.
“This unique curriculum offered by LPU Davao is industry driven, industry ready,” Balingit told Newsline Philippines.
LPU-Davao is also planning to add degree programs in aeronautical engineering, aircraft maintenance technology, e-sports, psychology, foreign service, veterinary medicine, occupational therapy, air transportation, and more, in the coming years.
It is also focused on “industry-based curriculum” to fit demands of the 21st century and is looking to recruit 800 to 1,000 incoming freshmen for the computer and industrial engineering programs.
Around 1,000 are enrolled in the Davao campus so far with a target of enrolling 2,500 more this August.
Every program has a section open and the tuition will not be increased beyond P1,500 per unit.
