Marcos open to talk with Duterte over SMNI issue

 DAVAO CITY –— The Palace says President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is “always available” to meet with his predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte.

Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil in a statement released to Palace reporters on Monday said, “The President will contact him now to ask if he wants a meeting.”

In a press conference here on Saturday, Duterte told reporters, he wants to “indirectly” talk to Marcos to help his friend pastor Apollo Quiboloy whose broadcast company, the Sonshine Media Network Inc. (SMNI) has been suspended by the National Telecommunications Commission.

The SMNI , a Davao-based broadcast company associated with Quiboloy, a known supporter of the former leader.

The government in December suspended SMNI after lawmakers accused the media outfit of violating its franchise.

The suspension affected Duterte’s weekly program ‘Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa.”
