MANILA, Philippines  — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said all the 37 airports that it manages are ready for the passenger influx this coming Holy Week.

All the area managers handling these airports across the country were told maximum deployment of service and security personnel must be ensured during Holy Week.

CAAP said security measures would be observed to ensure safe, reliable, and convenient operations at all the airports nationwide.

The agency has coordinated with the Office for Transport Security (OTS) for baggage screening, and with the PNP-Aviation Security Group for perimeter security and surveillance.

It has also coordinated with airlines to ensure efficient processing, especially at the check-in counters.

CAAP said additional airline personnel will be deployed as needed to accommodate passenger influx.

CAAP estimates an 8-percent increase in the number of passengers this Holy Week.

During last year’s Lenten observance, Philippine airports welcomed a total of over six million domestic and international passengers. More than half of them, or 3,841,283, used the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

CAAP, meanwhile, reminded passengers that help desks would be available to accommodate their concerns. Also, passengers were advised not to bring prohibited items at the airport to avoid delays at the screening or check points. -PNA
