DAVAO CITY – The Police Regional Office in Davao (PRO-11) will deploy close to 2,000 personnel to all public and private cemeteries, bus terminals, airports, and seaports in the region in preparation for the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, respectively.

Police Regional Director Brigadier General Filmore Escobal said Monday they will be deploying 1,945 police officers to cemeteries and memorial parks as well as to all travel terminals, where people are expected to converge on or days before this year’s “Undas” observance.

Escobal said some of their personnel will be deployed along major streets to increase police visibility and deter the commission of crimes by lawless elements.

“I am also advising the public to be vigilant so as not to give lawless elements the opportunity to carry out their dastardly acts,” Escobal said.

The PRO-11 director said they will also be setting up Police Assistance Centers not just in the cemeteries and transport terminals but in malls, beach resorts, and tourist destinations as well.

Escobal likewise ordered police provincial commanders to intensify the conduct of checkpoints in their respective areas in Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and bomb-sniffing canines will also be deployed to bus terminals, seaports, and airports to ensure the security of travelers, he added.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Davao has also conducted an inspection of all the seaports and terminals in the region in preparation for the influx of passengers during “Undas.”

Coast Guard District commander Commodore Roy Echeverria said all PCG personnel in Southeastern Mindanao is ready for the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days this year. (Newsline.ph)
