Soldier who was preparing to retire killed in an ambush

DAVAO CITY — A soldier who was about to retire was killed in an ambush along the highway of President Quirino town in the province of Sultan Kudarat of Monday afternoon , December 11, 2023.

The victim was identified as Staff Sergeant Renante C. Valdez, 43 years old and a resident of Magpet town in Cotabato province.

Police report indicated that Valdez was driving his white multicab, loaded with household goods, on his way home when he was ambuhed in a crowded area in Barangay Poblacion in President Quirino.

The assailants quickly escaped on motorcycles.

In the report of Major Davis Dulawan, chief of the President Quirino Municipal Police, he said, Valdez was declared dead on arrival by attending physician in a local hospital.

The victim is a member of the 57th IB, based in Upi, Maguindanao, under the 603rd Infantry Brigade of the 6th Infantry Division.

Valdez was set to retire from Army service next year.

Police investigatos and the army intelligence agents of the Sultan Kudarat are still probing the possible motive of the killing iin an effort to unmask the killers.-
