Davao City Ā (April 7) āPolice Major General Nicolas Torre II has once again stepped into the national spotlightāthis time, as one of the newly promoted star-rank officers who took their oath of office before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a ceremony held at MalacaƱan Palace.
Sources from Camp Crame say Torre has built a reputation for his organizational skills and in-depth knowledge of police procedures, which are believed to have contributed to his recent promotion.
Torreās elevation to the rank of Major General comes amid heightened public scrutiny over recent national controversies, including the high-profile arrests of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy, both of whom remain central figures in ongoing investigations.
The oath-taking ceremony highlighted the promotion of 4 Police Lieutenant Generals, 11 Police Major Generals, and 24 Police Brigadier Generals.
The event marked a significant milestone in the professional advancement of senior officers tasked with leading law enforcement nationwide.
In his address, President Marcos congratulated the newly appointed officers and reminded them that their promotions come with a greater duty to serve with integrity and excellence.
āRemember, you are not only rising in rank, you are also rising in responsibility,ā the President said.
āLet your actions be rooted in what is right, what must be done, and what is legally mandated.ā
He emphasized the importance of leading by example, encouraging the generals to instill discipline and professionalism within their ranks.
āYou have been entrusted with the noble leadership responsibility to guide, discipline, and inspire the men and women under your command. Ensure that every PNP personnel performs their duties with integrity, competence, and trustworthiness.ā
Marcos also reaffirmed his administrationās full support for the PNPās ongoing transformation programs, which align with the broader vision of building a āBagong Pilipinas.ā
āWe are all part of a larger mission to create a safer, more just, and more prosperous Philippines,ā he said.
He called on the police force to live up to public expectations and deepen their commitment to the PNPās core valuesāMakadiyos, Makabayan, Makatao, and Makakalikasan.
āItaguyod natin ang isang Bagong Pilipinasāisang bansa kung saan ramdam ang kapayapaan sa buong kapuluan, at kung saan ang bawat Pilipino ay nabubuhay nang matiwasay, walang takot, at may dignidad,ā Marcos added.
The promotions come at a crucial time as the PNP intensifies its efforts in law enforcement, internal security, and community engagement ahead of the May 2025 national and local elections.
PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, attended the ceremony along with his wife, Mrs. Mary Rose Marbil, and other family members of the promoted officers. Their presence underscored the important role of family support in public service.
