DAVAO CITY (September 25) —- Senator Antonio Trillanes was arrested inside the Senate building late Tuesday afternoon, but he immediately posted P200,000 bail before  Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC)  Branch 150 for his temporary liberty.

This also means the Hold Departure Order against him is recalled for now.

But another case is awaiting resolution from  Makati Trial Court Branch 148, where he is facing coup d’etat charges-a non-bailable case.

Rebellion is non-bailable under the Revised Penal Code.

In the event that Branch 148 Judge Andres Soriano issues a warrant of arrest, Trillanes will not be able to post bail.

Makati Police Chief Senior Superintendent Rogelio Simon and Sheriff Joseph Carreon served Trillanes warrant of arrest at the Senate and immediately proceeded to the police station for documentation, after which they brought Trillanes to RTC Branch 150 to post his bail.

Clerk of Court Diosfa  Valencia of Branch 150  in media interview said  it is now the time for the prosecution to present new evidence in court.

Valencia said Trillanes camp failed to present the original copy of his application for amnesty nor a  mere photocopy of the same. The court maintained that Trillanes failed to show any proof he filed an amnesty application.

It also maintained that the principle of double jeopardy does not apply in this case.

The Makati RTC Branch 150,   handles the rebellion case against Trillanes over the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.

While the Branch 148 handles the coup d’etat case.

Trillanes was arrested 21 days since President Duterte declared his amnesty invalid from the start,  stating his failure to submit his application,  his failure to admit his participation in the case as charged.

Prior to the serving of his warrant, Trillanes was so noisy.  He also claimed that his arrest shows that “Democracy is dead today.”  After posting bail, Trillanes looked defiant and serious.  Trillanes returned to the Senate after posting a bail.-Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
