Zamboanga City Mayor Dalipe Reiterates Commitment to Children’s Rights and Welfare

December 1, 2023 by NewsLine Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Mayor John Dalipe reiterated his unwavering support for the rights and welfare of children during the National Children’s Month celebration last November. Emphasizing the cornerstone role of children’s well-being in his administration’s vision for an inclusive and sustainable Zamboanga City, Dalipe affirmed his commitment to champion, protect, and celebrate the rights of the city’s youth.

Speaking at the event held at Skyview, Astoria Hotel on November 28, Dalipe underscored that his commitment goes beyond mere declarations, emphasizing that children’s rights are actively promoted under his leadership. The city has allocated a total of P284.868 million for children’s welfare, covering various initiatives.

A significant portion of the budget, amounting to P3.1 million, has been allocated for Information and Communications Technology, agricultural and forestry equipment, disaster response and rescue equipment, motor vehicles, and other properties. Additionally, the budget includes provisions such as P7.6 million for scholarship programs and grants, P19.8 million for students’ allowances, P1.83 million for juvenile justice and welfare programs, P1.2 million for children’s health and nutrition, and P4.3 million for the honoraria of Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

Moreover, P16.8 million has been earmarked for the honoraria of daycare workers, and P30 million is allocated for the infrastructure program. The city government has also invested P30 million in training programs related to nutrition, maternal and child health care. Another P1.9 million has been designated for non-government organizations, particularly the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, and the Reception and Study Center for Children.

On November 28, Mayor Dalipe led the distribution of children care and development books worth P2.7 million. Stressing that these efforts go beyond policies, Dalipe emphasized their integration into community programs, educational initiatives, and social services. By investing in the well-being of children, the city aims to cultivate a future characterized by compassion, resilience, and progress.

Mayor Dalipe urged Zamboangueños to reflect on their collective role in shaping the experiences of the city’s youngest members. Encouraging an environment where every child feels valued and protected, he called for unity in creating a space where children can dream and thrive.

Highlighting the collective responsibility of parents, educators, and community leaders, Dalipe urged cooperation in fostering an atmosphere of love, understanding, and support for children. He emphasized that the dreams of the youth serve as the blueprint for the city’s future, and nurturing their potential lays the foundation for a thriving Zamboanga in every aspect.
