DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division has a new commander in the person of Brig. Gen. Allan Hambala, the turnover ceremony on Friday was held at the Sgt. Demerin Grandstand, Camp Gen. Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro
Hambala who was then the assistant division commander succeeded Maj. Gen. Jose Eriel Niembra who opted to retire from service upon reaching the mandatory age.
The ceremony was also attended by former president Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine Army’s Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Roy Galido.
In his speech, Hambala said he will face the challenge of maintaining the gains of Davao region in sustaining the insurgency-free status, which was declared last year.
“I’m soundly aware of the great responsibility that has been entrusted to me today and also be reminded of the challenge on how to spread the wings of the Agila Division soar higher and reach new heights,” he said while addressing the officers and men of the division.
Hambala said he will continue the plans and programs of Gen. Niembra “He crafted a very good plan for the division, I will continue it with the support of my troops. I expect the same magnitude of support from them and the stakeholders here in Davao region because we need to maintain a peaceful and harmonious region, we have worked so much to attain an insurgency-free status, we need to protect our gains,.”
Duterte, who was the guest of honor at the event, lauded Niembra’s leadership and accomplishments in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and other threats to national security.
“I give my utmost thanks to Maj. Gen. Niembra for your unwavering dedication, outstanding leadership, and tireless commitment during your tenure as commander of the 10th Infantry Division. The entire Filipino people are indebted to your service,” Duterte said.
It was during Nimbra’s term when Eric Jun Casilao, alias Elian, the Secretary of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, was neutralized.
Meanwhile, Galido also recognized Niembra’s sacrifice and contribution to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Niembra was expected to become the next commander of the East Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).
