TAGUM CITY – Davao del Norte Provincial Governor Edwin Jubahib received P10,683,060 from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Region XI as a new fund for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD Program on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Lawyer Jason Balais, Director II of DOLE-XI personally handed over the fund to Jubahib in a ceremony at the Capitol Complex here.
“The financial assistance will serve as a fund for the salary of the beneficiaries of the TUPAD program. The thousands of beneficiaries under the emergency employment program include displaced, underemployed and seasonal workers,” said Provincial Information Officer Mervin Suaybaguio in a statement posted on the official information (Facebook) page of the Davao del Norte provincial government.
Jubahib said this will be a great help in giving opportunities to the people who will be employed especially those who lost their means of livelihood due to the COVID-19 and the African Swine Fever (ASF).
“The beneficiaries will be employed for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days. They will help in the implementation of the agro-forestry community projects of the province like tree planting or reforestation in the ancestral domains particularly in the municipality of Santo Tomas,” Suaybaguio said.
Planting materials are being prepared by the provincial government.
“This has two-fold benefits: the people will be employed and the beauty of nature will be restored,” Jubahib said.
“There is close cooperation between the provincial government of Davao del Norte and the DOLE. Besides livelihood programs, the DOLE gave P43-M to P44-M to the province under the emergency employment program in 2020 and thousands of Dabawenyos benefitted,” Suaybaguio said.
The turnover ceremony was attended by Jubahib; Provincial Administrator Engr. Josie Jean Rabanoz; Assistant Provincial Administrator for Operations Engr. Ma. Hazel Zafra; Employment and Workforce Development Divison Head Gloria Pamugas, and her fellow division heads.
The DOLE was represented by Balais; Provincial Director Angelina Talingting of DOLE-Davao del Norte; Labor and Employment Officer Lalaine M. Apugan, and Community Facilitator Dave Andrei Villegas. – Newsline.ph
