Magnitude 5.3 quake hits North Cotabato

DAVAO CITY (July 10) — A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Mindanao at 8:37 p.m. Tuesday with the epicenter traced at Makilala, North Cotabato.

In its latest earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was tectonic in origin.

Its location pointed to 06.93°N, 125.02°E – 008 km S 71° W of Makilala with a depth of focus at 005 kilometers.

The temblor was felt at Intensity 4 in Kidapawan City.

Other areas in Mindanao where shaking occurred were in the cities of Davao, Koronadal, Cagayan de Oro, and Cotabato.

There were no reported damages yet in the areas concerned as of this posting. Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected to occur. -PNA
