SURIGAO CITY – Government information officers and representatives from the academe, religious sector, and private organizations were inducted as officers of the Surigao del Norte Media-Citizen Council (SDNMCC) here on Friday to strengthen collaboration and understanding among key stakeholders in the media.
The formation of the council was spearheaded by the Philippine Press Institute.
“The council is a diverse body comprising individuals representing various sectors in Surigao del Norte and which aims to play a pivotal role in enhancing relationships among the media, government agencies, the private sector, and the people of the province,” Tirso Clerigo Jr. of RPN-DXKS Surigao, chair of the SDNMCC, said.
By creating a platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration, the council seeks to promote transparency, accountability, and mutual respect among its members, Clerigo said.
The council has active 39 members to date.
“As members of the media sector, we also express our commitment to upholding the principles of responsible journalism, good governance, and corporate social responsibility,” Clerigo added.
He noted the importance of working together to address pressing issues, disseminate accurate information, and empower the community through meaningful engagement.
“The council’s mandate is clear. That is, to serve as bridge to the government, private sector and the public in facilitating communication and building trust,” Clerigo said. (Alexander Lopez/PNA)
